rider biomechanics

Understand how you move in the saddle

Rider biomechanics looks at how your posture and movement influence the way you ride. It can be difficult to recognise your own movement patterns while you are in the saddle, so video assessment offers a useful opportunity to observe your position and identify areas that may benefit from attention.

Using slow-motion video capture in a suitable school setting, Sarah observes you riding your horse to assess aspects of your posture, symmetry and movement. You will wear a Visualise training jacket, with markers placed on your horse to support the assessment.

What does the assessment involve?

The session is designed to help you better understand your ridden position and identify practical ways to work towards your individual goals.

The assessment may include:

  • Slow-motion video analysis — reviewing footage of you riding to observe movement patterns that may be difficult to recognise in real time.
  • Ridden posture assessment — looking at how you position and move your body in the saddle.
  • Movement and symmetry observations — identifying areas of your position that may benefit from further attention.
  • Individual feedback — discussing the observations with you and explaining what they may mean for your riding.
  • Rehabilitation and corrective exercises — practical exercises selected to help address the movement patterns identified and support improvements in your ridden posture.

Turning observations into practical improvements

The aim is not simply to identify differences in your position, but to help you understand what you can do about them. Following the assessment, Sarah will advise on suitable rehabilitation and corrective exercises tailored to your needs and riding goals.

These exercises can give you practical steps to work on between sessions, helping you develop greater awareness of your posture, movement and control when riding.

Whether you want to improve your position, work on a particular movement difficulty or better understand how you move in the saddle, the assessment provides an opportunity to review your riding and explore areas for development.
